| rotated were at top dead center (TDC) then you wouldn't have any valve piston interference. Even if the piston was at TDC and you contacted a valve by manually rotating the cam you would know it. A common mistake when installing the timing belt is not counting the teeth and using only the reference marks on the timing cover backplates. This could put you 1-2 teeth off on the cam timing and depending on where the crank was when you aligned the belt it could advance or retard the timing. Just remove the crank pulley, water pipes and covers. Get down there and look straight at the crank gear and make sure it lines up with the mark on the oil pump cover. dot to notch. Then count the teeth from there to the dots on each of the cams per the manual. If that's good then get back to us.
